This is a unique and pioneering Dual-Qualification course, scientifically validated and drawing upon research from emerging fields within Modern Psychology to present the latest thinking in Mindfulness-based interventions, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Positive Psychology and Neuroscience.

The course offers a blended-learning approach, starting with an initial 8-week online Programme Access Course, which is self-paced learning. This is followed by a ten-month training programme (Saturday and Sunday once a month) delivered live via Zoom and the students own home-based study of the course material.

The lead tutor on this course is Carmel Farnan. All trainers at the Mindfulness Academy are Psychologists and Psychotherapists with in excess of twenty years clinical experience, who subsequently undertook training in Mindfulness. Our trainers have facilitated Mindfulness Training for Professionals internationally since 1999 in Ireland, UK, Canada and UAE. All our trainers are individual members of Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, Psychological Society of Ireland or British Psychological Society. Adherence to the ethical codes of British Psychological Society takes precedence throughout this course.

Who is eligible to take this course?
  • Applications are invited from those with a professional qualification in mental or physical health care, education or social care, or equivalent life experience, in the context within which the teaching will take place. Many holistic therapists have also taken this course.

  • Please note, a professional qualification is not a pre-requisite for this course. Applications are welcome from all walks of life, and it's for those who have an interest in, and a passion for mindfulness, who have already established their own personal mindfulness practice.

Course Requirements:

1) Student Assessments

Assessment will be by continual assessment comprising of a number of elements:

  • Full completion of the 8-week online Course Access Programme.

  • Attendance at all training days.

  • Attendance for the full length of all training days.

  • Monthly submission of various learning tasks, which includes questions, short written essays, case studies, summarising of relevant research articles.

  • Monthly submission of students 'Reflection on Learning'.

  • Active participation in the private online course discussion forum.

  • Submission of recordings of sample meditations of student leading  meditation practices.

Stage 1: Programme Access Course

This is an online 8-week program which introduces students to the key concepts that will be taught during the 10 month classroom based course. Assessment will be through online submissions, reflective journalling and participation in an online learning system. A commitment to shared learning and appreciation of Mindfulness in an online environment is a key element at this stage of the course. Successful completion of Stage 1 is essential to proceed to Stage 2 of the course. Total hours - 30 hours.

Stage 2: Classroom-based Teaching:

This consists of ten classroom modules which run one weekend per month, via live Zoom. Each of the ten classroom weekends consists of two teaching days - Saturday and Sunday. Course runs from 10am to 5pm Saturday and 9am to 3pm Sunday. Total Stage 2 hours -140 hours.

Stage 2: Home-based Learning:

In addition to the taught component, students will need to set aside 7-8 hours per week for home based, online tutor-led discussion forum and private study. These hours also include time allocated to personal practice of Formal and Informal Mindfulness practices and completion of written assignments. Total hours - 320 hours.

Assessment of competency as a Mindfulness teacher will be based on the industry standard of  Mindfulness-based Interventions Teaching Assessment Criteria.

Course Qualification

On successful completion of all stages of the course students will be awarded a Dual-Qualification, a 'Diploma in Teaching Mindfulness and Positive Psychology'

(Note: MBCT teachings from the course in a clinical setting, is only permitted by those students who hold a relevant mental health qualification). Please note it is not a requirement to hold an existing professional qualification in order to complete this course.

Where Can I Teach Post Qualification?

This course, with its original design provides students with the key skills to build and establish their own in-depth Mindfulness practice. This authenticity allows graduates to, in turn, teach Mindfulness courses in various contexts, including courses in the community, health care, education, and organisational settings. Some graduates choose to do 1:1 Mindfulness Coaching or to teach Mindfulness to Adolescents and Children.

  •  Our course duration is 490 hours. This exceeds the good-practice guideline criteria of UK Network for Mindfulness-Based Teachers .

  • We provide post-qualification support via email/telephone to graduates.

  • Lifetime online access to all course materials from 8-week Course Access Programme.

  • Access to our online Graduate Membership Area, facilitating connections with other Mindfulness Diploma graduates.

  •  Access to a portal of contemporary mindfulness and psychology research and resources.
