It’s important to know that our minds can do two things.
In practicing Mindfulness it's important to understand how our mind works. Well, our mind can work in two ways:
1. It can think and
2. It can be aware.
While thinking is essential for day to day practical living, such as I have to drop my suit to the dry cleaners, leave the house at in time for 8am train and I must remember to buy the new school books, it is the epidemic of over-thinking that causes us to feel overwhelmed and stressed, worried, anxious etc. An easy way to check what your thinking is doing is to check how you are feeling. Your feelings are there to show you what your thinking is doing. Pay attention today to any variation in your mood - whether upwards or downwards. Then immediately check what you were thinking about. You will always notice that it is your thoughts that are making your feelings. Then practice your Mindfulness into instantly switching into what you can see, hear, feel, taste and smell in your immediate environment. This automatically brings you into the aware part of your mind, and watch how naturally good you feel then.
